A fanlisting is a small website that celebrates and promotes a certain subject. The purpose is to encourage people from all around the world who are fans of that subject and add their names to a list to attempt to gather as many people as possible and if they have a website of their own, they can link back to the fanlisting showing their support for the subject as well as your site.
Fanlistings are non profit websites, meaning that no money is gained from them. The idea is to create a fun little website that people can enjoy. But you are only limited to your imagination and many people may choose to add other interesting features such as: Galleries, Poems, Fan fiction, Icons and lots of interesting facts and pieces about the subject. But you are only required to add as much information as you like (as long as you include the basics as stated in the rules!).
